About Trelay Farm
Trelay Cohousing Community is situated on a 32-acre smallholding two miles from the sea and 8 miles south of Bude in North Cornwall. Together, our intention is to look after each other, our land and our animals, and this requires time, passion and energy. It’s not always easy, but the rewards are huge!

What is Cohousing?
Cohousing schemes are intentional communities run by their residents. Each household has a self-contained home, as well as shared community space and facilities. Cohousing is a great way to live - balancing privacy and highly sociable and supportive community life. A desire to live in community is at the heart of this way of living.

How does it work?!
We are a community of people who are open and honest about their own dreams, and ready to listen and understand the dreams of others, so that together we can build a new way of living sustainably and well. We expect people to be thinking of the group as a whole, so that giving and receiving time and energy comes naturally. People with an open heart and passion for living on a smallholding, with a desire for learning, a keen interest in caring for animals, and for growing food are most likely to find their happy place here.

It is important to note that our living costs are not cheaper than anywhere else in Cornwall. The financial setup is difficult to describe fully in a few lines – you really do need to talk to us. Before you progress to living here on a trial basis, you will be told how people “buy” into Trelay. Each member makes a financial commitment to a property, either in the form of cash or by sharing our mortgage.
Our Community
As well as each household having their own living space, we all have use of several communal areas which include the following spaces...

Farmhouse Kitchen & Dining Room
We often get together to share cooking, eating and cleaning up. Roast dinners are a favourite, as are birthday cakes!

Community Garden & Children's Play Area
A great space for summer evenings, BBQs, and evening chats around a roaring bonfire.

Games, Cinema & Music Room
A multipurpose space used for live music, dancing, yoga, sound baths, karaoke, parties, sharing circles, communication workshops, quizzes and movie nights!

Peaceful Spaces in Nature
Amongst many peaceful spots, we have built a meditation hut with sea views, which is where some members hold daily morning Qi Gong sessions. We also have our own piece of woodland, which is a part of Millook Valley.

Veggie Patch & Polytunnel
We share a large vegetable garden for growing our own food, ample compost heaps and a large polytunnel, which we have started tending year-round.

Forest Garden & Wild Meadow
We have planted a diverse forest garden where we have built a small stage for summer music and the occasional member's wedding ceremony! We have also rewilded a marsh meadow.
